For Catholic families who homeschool, or are thinking about it

No more guessing what to teach next.

Your children are taught aloud and work on paper, while we plan what comes next and keep track. Prayer, formation and every decision stay with you. The free Playbook shows you how, starting with the chapter written for families like yours.

Forty-five seconds, the whole academy.

In a mother’s own words
“I feel a little like I’m just guessing right now, and I don’t like that feeling.”

Anna, in her first year of homeschooling

Picture a Tuesday morning at home. Two children need you at once, the history book hasn’t been opened in two weeks, and three friends have given you three different answers. You’re holding every piece for everyone, and quietly wondering if they’re falling behind.

You chose home, or are weighing it, for good reasons. You aren’t short on love or effort.

The trouble is the setup. Homeschooling, as it usually comes, hands one parent four jobs at once: choosing what to teach, putting it in order, teaching it, and keeping track. The long talks you wanted get spent on planning instead. You meant to walk with your children, not run their schedule.

What a LUMEN week looks like.

LUMEN isn’t one more curriculum for you to run. It plans four subjects for every child, ages 5 to 18. Here is one week.

A mother at the kitchen table with her son and daughter, each writing on a paper page while a small speaker sits on the table. No screen in front of the children.
  1. Each morning

A teacher’s voice leads each lesson. Your child answers out loud, then works a page in pencil, not on a screen. As little as two hours a day, and about ten minutes for you to get ready.

    Meet the patron saints

Each subject has a patron saint your child can ask for help before a hard page.

Show your Guide: where did the ten go?

“Guide” is what LUMEN calls you, the parent.

  2. Each evening

A two-minute recap in your inbox.

  3. Friday

A written report you can read over coffee. Your child is never told she is behind. You are told everything.

  4. Sunday

A ten-minute interview. You tell us what we could not see, and we shape next week around your answers.

A mother and her teenage son laughing on the porch steps in the afternoon while the younger children play on the lawn. The finished paper pages sit on the porch table under a stone.

When the page is done, the day is theirs.

You know what comes next, and the afternoon is free for a long walk and a long talk.

Good questions

What’s inside the book?

Six parts, 105 pages, written by our founder, George Weber, who built LUMEN for his own family first. It is the same book we give enrolled families.

  1. The Story We Refused to Accept. Why so many families end up carrying it all alone.
  2. Four Families. One chapter for each kind of family. Your answers on the form tell you which to read first.
  3. A Voice in the Room. How a day works, from the voice to the page to the Friday report.
  4. The Honest Ledger. The full price, and every question we have been asked.
  5. The Invitation. What the first seven days look like.
  6. The Complete Curriculum. The Saints’ Journey, the formation plan for ages 5 to 18.
What does LUMEN cost?

One price covers every child in the family: $500 a month paid annually ($6,000 a year), or $667 a month paid monthly. LUMEN is for families of two or more children.

The first 100 families to join keep the price they joined at for as long as they stay.

Who is LUMEN for, and who isn’t it for?

LUMEN teaches four subjects: Reading, Writing, Math, and Debate & History. It does not teach science. It is for families who want a plan they can read in full before they begin, and a record they can read every week.

It is not for families who want the least expensive way to homeschool. There are good, inexpensive options, and many faithful families use them well. We are not one of them. Nor is it for families who want formation taken off their hands, or their children taught by a screen.
